Welcome St. Francis De Sales families!

We hope everyone had a great and fun summer vacation. My name is Chef Richard Alcala. This school year, Richard’s Catering will happily be providing hot lunches Monday through Friday.

Our Mission
Richard’s catering aims to provide our growing kids with delicious and healthy meals by using fresh and natural ingredients along with lots of fruits and veggies to ensure and they get a balanced diet. All foods are prepared and cooked personally by Chef Richard. We provide a variety of menu choices at very reasonable prices to make sure our kids will enjoy while not breaking the bank.
Please note the following hot lunch policies and procedures. Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome:

The online ordering program (accessed through the St. Francis school website; under “Parent Links”, select “Hot Lunch”
We will send out a separate document entitled “St. Francis De Sales Hot Lunch Program Ordering Instructions” to show you how to sign up for the program and place orders.
Hot lunch service is run on an all-volunteer basis. If you would like to help and receive school service hours, please contact chef Alcala. Lunch is served Monday through Friday.

Jr. High Reading List

Dear SFDS Community,

We hope that you are well and that you are enjoying a restful and happy summer! In preparing for the coming school year we have organized the following summer lists for your review. Depending on your class and grade level, you may see as many as three different lists:

• School Supply Lists – The school supply list is organized by grade level.

• Suggested Reading – One of the most basic fundamentals of the educational process is the notion that consistent reading leads to considerably greater student success and improved study skills. This is a list of optional, suggested reading material that is appropriate for each grade level.

• Suggested Summer Work List – If you are interested in having your child review or work on further curriculum and sharpen study skills, this is a list of optional, suggested work that is appropriate for each grade level.

An important caveat is that the Suggested Reading List and the Suggested Summer Work List are not mandatory, they are completely optional. They are merely guidelines that should be used with parental discretion as to what is best for your child.

One of the greatest reasons for our academic success here at St. Francis de Sales is that we have such wonderful parents who are very involved in their child’s education. We hope that these summer lists are helpful as you continue to prepare your child for the coming school year.



2025-2026 Phone/Device policy

Dear St. Francis de Sales Community,

As you know, safety and security has been a focus for our school in recent years and the need to protect our students extends beyond their physical safety. It is our duty to ensure that they are given every opportunity to succeed despite any challenges they may endure along the way. For this reason, the school has made the decision to prohibit all phones and smartwatches on campus. Our students do not need to utilize their phones at any time while on campus, and studies show that they provide unnecessary distractions to students that may impede their learning. We have discussed this policy with members of the staff and school leadership, attempting to look at all possible hurdles as we strive towards this new expectation. Below, we address possible questions you may have regarding this decision as we work towards a seamless implementation.

FAQs:

What if our child walks home from school? In the event your child is walking home from school, they may need to bring their phone to school so that they are accessible to you once they leave campus. If that is the case, in addition to the walk home form that must be filled out by a parent or guardian, you will also need to sign a phone waiver allowing your child to bring their phone to school. Once on campus, your child must proceed directly to the health office where they will secure their phone in a lock bag, and they will not be able to retrieve their phone until they are ready to leave campus at the end of the day.

What if our child will be attending an after-school activity on campus? After-school activity details should be communicated to parents prior to the school day by the moderator or coach, so parents know what time to pick up their child. If you are unsure if your child has an activity after school or you need to know what time it ends, you may call the school office, and we will provide you with the information. Students do not need phones or smart watches at school if attending an activity on-campus as we have phones available to them in all classrooms and in after school care. If your child is walking home or leaving with another adult who is not the parent or guardian after the after-school activity, they will need to follow procedures outlined in the above FAQ to store and retrieve their phone while on campus. If you are picking up your child from campus, they do not need nor should they bring their phone or device to school.(also, see below FAQ)

What if our child is going home with another family or is being transported to another location by an adult who is not their parent and may need their phone to communicate with us? If a child is being picked up by another adult, parents need to communicate this to the child’s teacher or after-school activity leader. The child with the device needs to turn it in to the health office as soon as they arrive on campus in the morning to be locked up until the end of the school day. They may retrieve it at the end of the day prior to being picked up in carline.

What if a student brings a device to school when it is not allowed? Students who bring devices to school without proper permission or storage will receive school consequences such as a blue slip. Repeated infractions will lead to more serious consequences, such as detention, a meeting with the school administration, or suspension.

Can you clarify more on smartwatches? What if it is in their backpack all day? We understand a lot of families like the security of being able to utilize a smartwatch to track their child. You are welcome to put an air tag in their backpack, but any smartwatch will not be allowed or must be turned into the office at the start of the school day if the child is walking home or leaving with another adult who is not the parent or guardian (see above FAQs).

To summarize, only students with a qualifying reason to have their phone on campus (walking home or leaving with another adult who is not their parent or guardian to go to another location) will be allowed to bring it to school. In those cases, the student will need to lock up their phone in the health office and only be allowed to pick it up when ready to leave campus at the end of the day.

Gradelink Portal

All parents who have email addresses on file with the school have been sent their username and password either at the beginning of the school year or when they enrolled their child(ren) during the year. Students may also have their own username and password which allows them access to their class pages, grades, and assignments.

(Please note that these usernames and passwords will roll over into the new year if you are continuing with the school.)
